6th-9th Grade Fundraising

Hello 6th-9th grade parents!

I know your child has just finished his/her first quarter of school, but the next four years are going to fly by!  With that in mind, we have started our first fundraiser towards the combined Band/Music trip.  This trip will occur during SPRING BREAK in 2020.

We will offer at least two fundraisers a year to help with the costs of the trip.  The trip we took last school year cost approximately $975 per person.  That money went towards the charter buses (the bulk of the cost), hotel costs, a Broadway show, three evening meals, and multiple entry fees to a myriad of activities.

Besides fundraisers, you can deposit money directly each year.  Some parents were able to plan ahead and pay $250 each year (or whatever amount they were comfortable with) to help spread the cost over a longer period of time.

If your child eventually ends up not going on the trip, any money directly deposited will be refunded to you (as long as it is before the travel company deadline for deposits; you will be given plenty of notice about that in the future).  Any money earned from fundraisers will go towards the general music trip fund.

The fundraiser packet the students have now is due back by Tuesday, Nov. 8th.  All items must be paid for BEFORE the order will be placed.  Checks can be made out to Mid-Prairie.  Items will be delivered to the school on Tuesday, December 6th.  If your child has people order online, I believe those items are shipped directly to the customer.

Please remember, it is NOT REQUIRED that your child participate in this fundraiser.  We are doing this as an attempt to help with the eventual cost of the music trip.  When students go out to sell, they can also ask their potential customers if they would like to make a small direct donation instead.  100% of the donation will go to his/her account.  With the fundraisers, it is approximately 40% of the total sold.  Whatever profit your student makes from the fundraiser goes directly towards his/her account.  It does NOT go into a general fund (unless they don’t go on the trip).

We will also be handing out a poinsettia fundraiser this week, too.  The poinsettias will be coming from Reha Greenhouses here in Wellman.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Madrigal Dinner Tickets

Harken back to the days of medieval times by joining the Mid-Prairie Choir Department as they present their 23rd Annual Madrigal Dinner.  This five-course catered event has long been a favorite of community members and is often the highlight performance of the year for choir members.  There will be merry times with the jesters, badgering for coin and food from the pesky beggars, a whimsical play, a courtly dance from the dancers, palms to be read by the gypsies, and of course a bounty of songs to share.  King Sawyer Black and Queen Kirsten Duwa and their Royal Court (Greta Schmidt, Maizy Fugate, Erin Campbell, Katie Palmer, Erin Horesowsky, Delaney Smith, Kaitlin Poock, Isaiah Sents, Jaiden Sedlacek, Michael Meserole, Brent Foster, David Fleming, Hunter Eden, and Quinn Schmidt) all invite you to join with them in this jovial event.  This year there will be three chances to attend this spectacular feast.  The festivities will be held on Friday, December 2nd at 7:00 pm, Saturday, December 3rd at 6:00 pm and a third show on Sunday, December 4th at 5:00 pm.   Due to the overwhelming popularity of this event, tickets usually sell out very quickly.  For tickets, contact Collette McClellen at Mid-Prairie High School at 319 646-6091, or email her at cmcclellen@mphawks.org.

Fall Festival Information

Fall Festival: September 23rd @ Kalona Historical Village

Things to bring/wear:  You will need to wear blue jeans to the Fall Festival with your music polo.  If you do not have a music polo, you can borrow one from the Mid-Prairie Music Department.  Otherwise, please wear a black M-P shirt.  You will all have a few minutes of free time at the Fall Festival, so you can bring money to buy food/drinks while there.  Please remember that you need to have all food eaten/all drinks drunk BEFORE you get back on the buses to the high school.  There will be neither food nor drink on the buses.  Keep the buses clean and respect the bus drivers and school chaperones.
Schedule:
12:40 - HS Band and Choir load buses
12:50 - 7th/8th Band performs
1:00 - 6th Choir
1:10 - 7th/8th Choir performs
1:20 - HS Band performs
1:30 - LL HS Choir
1:40 - MC HS Choir
2:00 - HS Band and 7th/8th band march around town
2:20 - HS Choir Only students load bus at Fall Festival grounds
2:30 - HS Band students load bus at Kalona Library

You must ride the same bus to and from the Fall Festival.  No, you may not stay at the Fall Festival even if you have a note from your parent.  Everyone has to return to the High School via the school buses.  You also need to remember that there is to be NO food nor drink on the buses.  Eat/drink at the Fall Festival; don’t bring anything back with you.
Please remember the general rules of conduct.  You are all representing Mid-Prairie.  Be polite while waiting in lines, be aware of all the other people at the festival (elderly, children in strollers, etc.)  Also remember to respect the grounds at the festival.  People spend many volunteer hours taking care of the grounds and would not appreciate you trampling over the flowers.
You also need to be polite to the school chaperones.  If they tell you to do something (or to stop doing something) follow what they say.

Make sure you don’t “forget” what time you perform. Smile while on stage – have fun!

Sausage Gravy Dinner

The Annual Homecoming Pancake Supper has a bit of a change this year...  This year it will be a Sausage Gravy Supper on September 9th, from 4:30-7:15 in the HS Cafetorium.  Due to the construction, we won't be able to transport the large pancake griddle to the back of the school to cook our pancakes... and due to Homecoming and Fall Festival happening on the same day this year, we changed the date of our supper.

Friday, September 9th will be a busy night at the high school: we will be hosting our Sausage Gravy Supper, the 1969 Undefeated Mid-Prairie Football team (and cheerleaders) will be having a reunion, and the new Indoor Practice Facility will be hosting an open house.

All students in band and choir were asked to sell three tickets to this event.  All the proceeds help fund all the music camp scholarships through the Fine Arts Boosters.  It will be a great evening, so let us take care of supper and you can go cheer on the Hawks!

Welcome Back!

It's official: summer is over and school is in session!  I hope all of you had a great break and are ready to back into the full swing of things.  Today will go by so very quickly, I'm ready for choir to start :)  It is an adjustment getting used to choir being 4th block, but I'm sure we will all get the swing of it soon.

I will do my best to put the daily announcements and lesson schedules in the appropriate tabs.  Remember, please email or call if you have any questions!

Here's to a great school year!
